Embarking on hikes within Olympic National Park has been an experience that’s both humbling and exhilarating. The trails to Marymere Falls and Klahhane Ridge offered contrasting glimpses into the park’s vast ecosystems. Marymere Falls, with its accessible trail through lush forests, epitomized the serene beauty of the Olympic Peninsula. The falls themselves, cascading majestically, served as a powerful reminder of the natural world’s enduring beauty. The following day, our journey up Klahhane Ridge challenged us physically and mentally, offering unparalleled views and wildlife encounters that enriched our connection to this wild landscape.

The hike to Klahhane Ridge is a testament to the park’s rugged allure. Starting from the Hurricane Ridge Visitor Center, the trail presented a diverse array of landscapes, from steep inclines to alpine meadows ablaze with wildflowers. The switchbacks leading to the ridge tested our resolve, but the panoramic views from the top — overlooking the Strait of Juan De Fuca and vast expanses of the Olympics — made every step worthwhile. Sharing our lunch spot with curious chipmunks, we felt a profound sense of accomplishment and a deeper connection to the natural world around us.
